· Study the way humans evolved and they study the way we live today
· Two main anthropologists are biological and social
· Biological anthropologist focuses on our physical characteristics and how the environment and genetics affects our appearance
· They do this research by using fossils of ancient humans and closely related primates
· Social anthologists focus on the different cultures around the world. How people from different areas live, what they eat, etc.
Work Environment
· Most work in universities or colleges and spend most of their time teaching and researching
· Usually work indoors in libraries and museums
· They may also have fieldwork which may require them to live with another culture for a certain amount of time
Salary & Hours
· Starting salaries are close to $60,000
· By mid-career it can increase to $90,000
· Senior professors at respected universities can make over $120,000
Education
· In high school, anthropology would be a really good course to take as it introduces you to some of the things you will be researching as a anthropologist

· For this field of work you need a great amount of patience and persistence as research can be very slow
· They study the things they find and write reports on them

· Long hours are spent digging, collecting and searching for artifacts
· Some work as curators in museums
· Others work for governments but many work as professors in universities or colleges

· With a lot of experience they can make up to $120,000
· The beginning earnings are usually around $40,000-$60,000
