. Main interest was cytological research
· Author of many publications in the field of cytology
· Discovered sex chromatin body, now known as Barr Body in 1949 which made it possible to identify the cellular sex of an individual
· Devised buccal smear test where cells from a patient’s mouth are taken to examine for chromosomal defects. It also began the new era of research on genetic disorders.
