Artifact: Black-Eyed Beans
I chose a picture of black-eyed beans for the evolution unit because this was an activity that we did in class. We used various tools and tried to pick the beans. This activity was based on favourable traits and I think it was a really good activity. This picture is significant because this activity was a really good activity. I learned what favourable traits were without Ms. Tran teaching a lesson on it. This activity was well thought out and I am happy I got to take part in it. I believe this activity will be great for next semester as well.
In this activity we had to use our imagination. We were pretending to be birds with different beaks. The beaks were represented by toothpicks, tweezers, spoon or chopsticks. We were given a time limit and we had to see how many beans we could collect in that time. In the end we found that the spoon beak was best for bean collecting. This is a favourable trait and the others are not. This means the birds with the spoon shaped beaks will survive easily but it will be very hard for the others to survive. This was a great activity and lesson at the same time!
